The reckoning

Excerpt from "Divorce a la Carte"

The sound of his footsteps on the marble floor reverberated in the empty hall as he slowly, resolutely made his way to the stairs and descended into the basement. He halted in front of a steel-plated door and unlocked it with a loud rattle of his keys. For a while he stood in the doorframe, silhouetted against the light. From the pitch-black darkness came a moan and the tinkle of chains and he switched on the lights.

Betty stood in the middle of the room, her arms raised high above her head and her wrists cuffed tightly to a chain that came down from the ceiling. She was balancing on pumps with 8 inch heels and a spreader bar between her ankles held her legs wide apart. A large ballgag filled her mouth and a complicated head-harness held it securely in place. She looked at him with wide, frightened eyes as he slowly walked up to her. Their eyes locked until she broke down and started to sob, tears rolling down her face.
